Porcelain Balloon Vessels
These vessels are formed by moulding thinly rolled porcelain slabs around a balloon. There is no consistent way to make these as the completed shape is totally dependant on factors such as the size/shape of the balloon and how the slabs are joined together.
I achieve the joining by pinching the slabs together and these pinch marks are then accentuated as an integral aspect of the completed piece. Black slip is added to some of the finger marks and then scraped away prior to bisque firing. Underglaze pencils and crayons are then used on the bisque vessel before the addition of a clear glaze and in some cases, gold lustre.
