SHORELINES

I am currently working on a new series of prints using the concept of 'shorelines' as inspiration, utilising some of the processes and ideas I developed whilst making the 65 monoprints series last year. This means that I am using lino as a base and the individual prints are generated over a few months so they change over time through further additions of and interaction of the various ink layers. Therefore I'm never entirely sure of the final outcome for any print I make. I am using Saunders Waterford HP 638g paper for these as the extreme thickness of the paper provides a stable base for multiple ink layers.

The imperial size paper is too wide for my press so I have rigged up a press using a large board on the floor along with a 60cm wide garden roller....the barrel of this is filled with water to provide the weight and is reasonably effective, although not up to the standard of a dedicated relief press. However, this works for me and I enjoy the printing process along with the problems it poses me.

The examples shown below are all from 2019/20. I will update these as the project develops.

A draft copy of my concept for the catalogue can be accessed through the BOOKS page or clicking on the 'shorelines' book below right.

A short film showing the process of making the latest square format prints during my short residency at Yorkshire ArtSpace can be viewed on youtube here.
