Spherical Jars
All of the spherical jars are made by joining two semi-circular bowls. I don't have a wheel, so each half is formed within a stainless steel bowl sourced from IKEA. There are two different sizes and these have determined the size of these pieces. The initial inspiration comes from Korean Moon Jars, many of which were made by joining two halves together. It is difficult to achieve a precise join and therefore I was able to exploit the visible join along with the folds resulting from pressing the clay slab into the bowl. The finished colours/glaze effects are randomly achieved depending on the clay body along with the layering of glazes. I have added funnels to some of these along with rims and feet but many are simply left with various sized holes in the top.
