Sun and Moon
The sun and moon series were the last prints I made before returning from Kafountine in March 2018. We live without electricity in the bush just outside of the village and therefore the night sky is clear without any light polution. The moon had great importance as tides and fishing are greatly effected by its phases. A full moon is not good for fishing although it is possible to walk around in the dead of night without a torch and the shadows cast by the moon of the trees on the ground are a spooky delight.
Wandifa Demba, a great friend of mine from the village sadly passed away whilst I was there and I made the four full moon prints in his memory having just returned from his funeral. Islamic funerals happen very quickly after death and I used the time making these prints reflecting on our friendship and the impact on the family he left behind. Wandifa was the same age as me and we spent many hours together in silent company as our ability to communicate through language was very limited.
