ANTARCTIC SHORELINES

I have been working on the shorelines project over the past few years and this has incorporated relief monoprints, ceramics and photography. The project started out using trips to the UK coastline as inspiration but in 2019 I booked a trip to the Antarctic Peninsular as I saw this as integral to my visual research. The trip was delayed for various reasons until January 2023. I have now returned and am now going through my work with the intention of arriving at a coherent body of work capable of being exhibited under the title - Antarctic Shorelines.

The shorelines series has its roots in an exhibition I had in 2018 at the Arthouse in Sheffield called 65 monoprints. The work in the exhibition was a result of experimental relief printing over a period of three years. The prints incorporated a number of themes inspired by my travels and shorelines was one of these.

The majority of the current prints are either A2 size or 600mm square and involve a process of 'wet on wet' printing, some of which have taken up to six months to fully dry.

A short film showing the process of making the square format prints during my short residency at Yorkshire ArtSpace can be viewed on youtube here.
