Egypt

I have been to Egypt many times to visit the Red Sea to go scuba diving but until recently I had not visited the ancient sites along the Nile. These have had a lasting impression on me - the Nile, the Pyramids of Giza, Abu Simbel, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings. I had these in mind when I embarked on a series of prints inspired by the rich visual material I encountered on my travels.

As I worked on this series I was also looking at paintings by artists such as Gerhard Richter and John Hoyland along with the wider Abstract Expressionist movement. I think that some of the images I looked at had an influence on the strength and use of colour in some of these prints.
