Kafountine

I first visited Kafountine in 2011 with the intention of learning how to play the kora. However, I soon abandoned the idea due to a lack of patience and commitment. The people and the life of the village have made a lasting impression on me, resulting in having a house built where I now spend a couple of months every winter. Living in Kafountine has had significant influences on my life and I was able to start a social enterprise lino printing workshop in 2012, working with a group of local artists in the village. I shipped out a lino press along with associated equipment and materials to enable the artists to learn the lino printing process and subsequently market their work to a world wide audience.

I only started making my own prints there in February/March 2018 as part of the 65 monoprint project, taking inspiration from the rural landscape surrounding the village - the bush and the rice fields. The following prints were all made in the print workshop in Kafountine and utilised a limited palette of colours - yellow, green and blue which I took out with me
